Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset Ranked Sweden’s Best Hospital 2025

Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset in Uppsala has been named Sweden’s best hospital in 2025. This is shown in the latest National Patient Survey conducted by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR), where 66 hospitals across the country were evaluated by their patients.

Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset in Uppsala tops the 2025 National Patient Survey and is ranked as Sweden’s best hospital.The hospital received the highest overall rating in the country, securing first place in this year’s survey. It has also consistently ranked among the top hospitals in every survey since 2016.

Behind this success lies the “Uppsala Model” — a close collaboration between Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset and Uppsala University Hospital. By sharing staff, expertise, and resources, the two hospitals jointly care for patients in the region. The patients’ responses in the National Patient Survey confirm the success of the Uppsala Model.

Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset has consistently scored 8 to 12 percentage points above the national average in all years of measurement. The hospital also celebrated its100th anniversary in 2025.
Founded originally to provide care for women in need, it is today a modern specialist hospital in orthopedics and hand surgery with around 60 employees, 14 beds, and three operating rooms. Each year, about 15,000 patients are treated, and 3,000 surgeries are performed — around 1,000 of them in collaboration with Uppsala University Hospital.

Aleris Elisabethsjukhuset ranks among the top three hospitals in all categories and is the best in the country in four: overall impression, emotional support, respect, and treatment.

About the National Patient Survey

TheNational Patient Survey (NPE) aims to strengthen the patient’s position and provide a basis for improving healthcare from the patient’s perspective. The survey is conducted in the spring of odd-numbered years, and the results for2025 were published on October 6, 2025.

Patients evaluate their most recent healthcare visit based on factors such as participation, treatment, and accessibility.The questionnaires are sent to a random selection of patients via 1177 Vårdguiden or by post, and participation is voluntary. The survey is available in several languages.
