Aleris’ proprietary AI assistant, Albot, has been named one of four finalists for the 2025 Svea Prize – a national award recognising innovation in healthcare and social services. Albot supports Aleris employees by streamlining access to information and reducing time spent on administrative tasks. Developed in-house and deeply integrated with the organisation’s systems, Albot is already making everyday work more efficient and patient-focused. The winner will be announced at the Quality Fair in Gothenburg on 11 November.
Aleris’ in-house developed AI assistant, Albot, is one of four entries selected for the final round of this year’s Svea Prize. Following a jury hearing, the finalists will be announced and the winner presented at the Quality Fair in Gothenburg on 11 November.
- We are very pleased that our work with Albot has come this far in the competition. It is a sign that AI can truly make a difference in our employees’ daily work, and ultimately, for our patients, says Richard Petersson, physician and Chief Medical Information Officer at Aleris.
Albot supports Aleris employees by quickly and accurately responding to questions about topics such as HR, payroll, internal procedures and administrative processes. The assistant is integrated with Aleris’ intranet and document management systems and is continuously developed based on user needs and the data entered by staff.
- With Albot, our employees no longer need to spend time searching for information. It frees up valuable time that can instead be devoted to patient care and helps improve the working environment. It feels incredibly meaningful to contribute to that, says Richard Petersson.
Albot is currently available to all Aleris employees in Sweden. It currently handles around 50 queries per day, and usage is steadily increasing. According to employee feedback, the most appreciated features include quick access to up-to-date information on internal processes, easy answers to HR and payroll questions, and support with handling personal matters such as payslips.
- I use Albot several times a week, often to quickly find answers about routines or when I have HR questions. It saves a lot of time, says Natalie Klintenstedt, nurse and unit manager at Aleris Sleep Apnoea, who was also a Svea Prize finalist in 2023.
The project was formally launched in autumn 2024 and has since been developed iteratively in close dialogue with users.
Albot is a unique, proprietary solution that can be deeply integrated with the organisation’s own systems. In addition to integration with Active Directory (AD), the document management system, payroll system and intranet, Albot is also connected to Qlik, the organisation’s business intelligence platform. This provides great flexibility and opportunities for continuous development.
There are also opportunities to expand the use of Albot to Aleris’ operations in Norway and Denmark. Since the AI assistant is built for scalability and adaptability, it can be relatively easily developed to support employees throughout the group.
- We see good potential to adapt Albot for our colleagues in Norway and Denmark as well. The need to free up time and streamline administrative processes is shared across all our operations. Sweden also has excellent conditions to lead in digital healthcare, but we need to dare to use data and AI in the right way. With Albot, we are showing how tangible value can already be created today, says Richard Petersson.
Aleris also sees long-term potential in developing AI support for patients’ own interactions with the organisation. One possible direction is to apply insights from Albot in the development of digital services for patients. Through Albot, a system is being built that enables Aleris to continually learn and improve, with the aim of offering both staff and patients better support and easier access to information.
The Svea Prize was established in 2007 to reward innovations that strengthen quality, efficiency and user benefit in healthcare, dental care, social care and social services. This year’s entries have been reviewed by an expert panel, and the four selected teams will now present their solutions to a distinguished jury ahead of the final decision.
